What is a personal cause donation campaign?
mycause offers fixed and flexible personal cause crowdfunding campaigns for those wishing to fundraise for a person, pet or project as opposed to a charitable organisation (charity cause).
Donations made to a personal cause are not tax-deductible.
Flexible crowdfunding or fundraising means all donations are sent to the beneficiary regardless of whether the goal or target is reached. For example your target may be $2000. If you receive $550 in donations you will still receive these funds.
Funds are disbursed monthly notwithstanding the end date of the campaign.
Most people use our personal cause campaigns to raise funds for a friend, a loved one or themselves. This can include raising funds for surgery & treatment, volunteering trips, purchasing equipment such as a wheelchair, competing in sporting events, celebrations, funerals & memorials and even fundraising for pets & animals. Many inspiring fundraising ideas can be found here: https://www.mycause.com.au/fundraising-ideas
What kind of people or organisations can use flexible crowdfunding on mycause?
A personal cause campaign is for a person or pet or project.
It cannot be a commercial campaign except at mycause discretion. For example we are allowing fundraising to support businesses affected by Covid-19.
If you are a community group such as a sporting club, service club or auxiliary you should consider signing up on the mycause platform to become a "Club/NFP" partner at no charge.
If you are a group or project we expect funds to be banked to the group's bank account not your personal bank account.
mycause welcomes all fundraisers that are domiciled within Australia. We will also accept overseas fundraisers from limited overseas locations.

Orphanage Fundraising/Tourism/Volunteering
- mycause does not support orphanage tourism or volunteering. Included in this is rehabilitation centres for trafficked children or adults and similar. Whilst this activity is not illegal mycause does not support fundraising for this kind of trips, so campaigns of this nature will not be allowed.
- Poverty, access to education and disability are some of the main reasons why millions of children are living in orphanages. Families often have no other means of addressing these issues and send their children to orphanages to access support. Decades of research show that growing up, separated from family, in a residential care institution, such as an orphanage, is harmful to a child's development and well-being. Well-meaning support for orphanages - through donations, volunteering, tourist trips and faith-based mission work – is weakening the global effort to shift away from institutional models of care towards family-based care and perpetuating the cycle of family separation and institutionalisation. Statements of this kind are also not allowed:
- Inflammatory or accusatory statements
- Profanity
- Hurtful/hateful/violent language
